Easter in Alghero is one of the most important religious events that for years has been celebrated with great participation

Alghero is one of the most beautiful cities in Sardinia that always offers unforgettable experiences. Thanks to its Catalan imprint, there is a unique atmosphere that leads back to a past rich in history and tradition

During the period of the Holy Setmana the small streets of the historic center are illuminated by red lanterns. The darkness of the streets is broken by the red of the lanterns that are filled with the music and the choirs of the faithful.

The Good Friday Procession

Setmana Santa is one of the most important events in Alghero dating back to the 16th century. A show that begins with Palm Sunday and ends with the Easter Monday (Easter Monday). The celebrations reach their climax with the Good Friday procession

During the procession on Good Friday, the women bring in procession the red torches called farols. The long procession moves slowly accompanying the statue of the Virgin that moves from the church of San Francesco through the streets of the historic center. The ritual starts at 8 and ends late at night in the Oratory of Mercy.
