In the ’80s, my grandmother used to rent out rooms in her house, but certainly not through Airbnb. In a time when Internet and Airbnb didn’t exist, word of mouth and hospitality meant that many passing people would stop by for a few days. Often, we became friends, sharing lunches and dinners.
Even with foreigners, communication happened in a mix of Sardinian and Italian, and we understood each other perfectly!
Reviews, back then, were like postcards arriving every Christmas from all over the world. Receiving them was a lovely feeling and reminded us of those people.
Today, receiving an online review still remains a unique gratification. It’s important to know that you had a good experience. Perhaps, on second thought, things haven’t changed so much over time; the boundaries have just expanded!
