Setmana Santa (between March and April)
Easter in Alghero includes the rites of the Holy Week (Setmana Santa) which on the most evocative day, culminate with the Good Friday procession. The city is tinged with red lights among the streets of the old town. An atmosphere of ancient and past, of melancholy and romanticism. The bells of the Cathedral of Santa Maria ring, while the rite of the Esclavament is celebrated.
The women dressed in total black, walk in procession with the farols (candles) reciting the litany in the narrow alleys of the Alguer vella (Old Town). A unique event in Sardinia, when the Catalan culture joins the Sardinian tradition.
Springtime (April-May)
Spring is the perfect time to visit Sardinia. Long and sunny days, mild and pleasant temperatures are perfect for hiking, walking and cycling. The beaches are still deserted and if swimming in the sea may be quite extreme, enjoying the first warm sun of the season while lying on the sand may heal your soul and body from the long winter months.
Among the paths of the Porto Conte Park you can make one/half day hikes. We recommend the walk to Cala Barca, a wild scenery close to the cliffs of Capo Caccia.
Generally, in May, many events are held to encourage outdoor activities around Alghero and its surroundings. The event “Monumenti Aperti” offers the opportunity to visit the main historical and archaeological sites for free!
In the event “Emozioni di Primavera” on every weekends between April and June, you can take part to seminars, exibitions, food and wine tastings . The Porto Conte farmers will present their home-made products like wine, cheese, bread, olive oil, honey and much more.
Summertime vacations (July and August)
The heart of summer is dedicated to the beaches and Alghero is the perfect destination for a beach and culture holiday.
